Accommodation
So Where Will You Live?
Tai Poutini Polytechnic has 61 accommodation rooms available for 2010. If demand exceeds supply we will actively seek external rentals, Student Services will also be available for assistance.
The accommodation includes:
- Four new blocks of 31 single bedrooms with shared lounge, bathrooms, cooking and laundry facilities.
- Three self contained houses. They consist of one two bedroom house, two three bedroom houses, one which has three upstairs rooms, lounge, bathroom and kitchen with a ground floor one bedroom self contained flat below it.
- A 21 room accommodations block (Puketahi House) with shared laundry facilities. Rooms comprise of four two-bedroom units with kitchen, lounge, and bathroom. The remaining 13 rooms consist of seven standard units with own bathroom and a shared kitchen/common room plus six studio units with all facilities.
Please note that all accommodation provided is on an unsupervised basis.
Costs
(Rates with effect from 1 January 2010)
- Weekly rentals are $110 per room (inclusive of electricity)
- Two weeks rent is payable in advance, plus a non-refundable administration fee of $50 and a property bond of $350 (refundable on satisfactory exit inspection). A total of $600 is payable in advance on acceptance of a place.

Applicants should fill in their name and school (if appropriate) on the confidential report form and pass it on to the principal of the school they presently attend or most recently attended. The principal (or his or her nominee) will complete the form and forward it to the Accommodation office under separate cover.
For applicants who have left school, including mature students, a personal reference from a Justice of the Peace, minister of religion, work colleague or other community figure is required.
Applicants, if under 18 years of age, will require written parental or guardian consent if they wish to share accommodation with an applicant of the opposite gender.
Notification
- Applications for accommodation should be made as soon as programme acceptance has been received.
- Applicants will be notified of the results of their applications as soon as possible after the selection meeting.
- Successful applicants will be allocated a room by Tai Poutini Polytechnic.
- Unsuccessful students may be waitlisted.
Private board and rental accommodation are also available close to the campus.
In Auckland and Christchurch there are numerous accommodation options available and help can be provided if needed.
In Wanaka students normally share rental accommodation which is readily available.
