Cave Creek Student Memorial Scholarships

On 28 April 1995, 13 students enrolled in the Certificate in Outdoor Recreation programme and one Department of Conservation Officer lost their lives when a viewing platform collapsed at Cave Creek on the West Coast. An initiative by the Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics of New Zealand (ITPNZ), supported by the New Zealand Government, led to the establishment of the Cave Creek Student Memorial Scholarship Fund.

All Students enrolled any full-time outdoor pursuits (Outdoor Recreation, Leadership & Guiding or Ski Patrol) programmes at Tai Poutini Polytechnic and who are New Zealand citizens are eligible to apply for one of up to 20 scholarships for programme fees, programme-related costs or expenses. The value of the scholarship will be dependent on the amount of funding available each year to distribute. In the past scholarships have been for approximately between $1,000 and $2,000 each.

Applicants are required to complete the “Cave Creek Memorial Scholarship Fund Application Form”.
